Jo Holley, 32, married James Bucknall, 33, at the MolenVliet Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa, on 21st November 2015. She says:
We wanted a fun-filled outdoor party in a unique venue that had multiple areas that we could use. MolenVliet fulfilled this brief perfectly. We married on the lawn, then walked with our guests to the vineyard, where we held our champagne reception. Come evening, we used the pretty estate building for dinner and dancing.
James and I are both big foodies so picking the menu was very important to us. It was also one of the main reasons we married in South Africa – the food and wine are amazing. We had spiced loin of kudu (a type of antelope) with potato and butternut gratin and caramelised cabbage, before serving several mini sweets such as chocolate and blood orange fondants.
It unexpectedly started to rain on our wedding morning, so I sent James out to buy some umbrellas. He did, but they were paper ones! They were pretty useless for the weather, but made for some great photos.
Our theme was ‘rustic chic’, which the flowers – in pink, white and sage – summed up perfectly. The styling was simple but pretty, with lots of green foliage to go with the setting of the vineyards and mountains. I didn’t want anything too uniform, so every floral display was different.
Our biggest extravagance? Hiring our videographer, but it was totally worth it. We also had a moving GIF photobooth, which captured people’s dance moves. We then compiled the footage into a fun video.
My top tip: Try to have your dancefloor next to the bar – it creates a really great atmosphere and no one left the area all night!
